Kelly Clarkson's daughter waves goodbye to American Idol

Kelly Clarkson's daughter River waved goodbye to American Idol in an adorable video on Thursday night (07Apr16).

The first ever series of the TV talent show back in 2002 was won by Kelly, who has gone on to have a long and successful career off the back of the victory. Kelly was unable to attend the last episode of what has been previously described as the final series of Idol due to being heavily pregnant, however, the 33-year-old live tweeted throughout the show.

She concluded her social media commentary by posting a cute clip of her nine-month-old daughter bidding her own farewell to the show on her Twitter page. In the clip, River is seen beaming and giggling next to her mother as she exclaims, "Bye!" repeatedly.

Kelly captioned the clip: "Congrats @TrentWHarmon :) @laporsharenae can't wait 4 ur album too! River wanted 2 say bye #AmericanIdol #IdolFinale."

Mississippi native Trent Harmon was crowned the 15th and final Idol winner, but the 25-year-old insisted he's not planning to rest on his laurels now he's won.

Instead, he's ready to get stuck into work and focus on producing the best music possible for his fans.

“I mean, I understand and I'm fully aware that all that happened tonight was it got me into the bottom of the next level,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I'm gonna keep that mindset until further notice.”

Trent beat La’Porsha Renae to win the show, but both have signed contracts with Big Machine Records. He added he is thrilled that he can embark on the journey of recording his debut album alongside someone who has gone through the entire Idol process with him.

“I'm just glad I get to go to work with my friend. Even post-Idol we're gonna be doing this together,” he continued. “We don't do it separately, we do it together. We sit next to each and I'll say, 'Porsha can you sing this?' and she'll say, 'Yeah but can you sing this?' We get better together.”

Meanwhile, host Ryan Seacrest fuelled rumours that Idol will be returning in some capacity when he closed the show by saying goodbye to the fans "for now".

“The real reason our lives have changed forever is you at home. We know that. We appreciate that. And one more time, this is so tough, we say to you from Hollywood, good night America… for now,” he said, as the screen faded to black.

The show's creator Simon Fuller recently revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he has big plans for reinventing the show.

Explaining that any revamp will be more "immersive and digitally interactive" for viewers, Simon added: "For me the most exciting thing is we can really now dive deep with all the new technology that’s coming. My head is exploding with opportunities. The next generation of Idol - and Idol will certainly be coming back for sure - will have a youthful glow and it will be pioneering again, just as it was when we first began."
