Keke Palmer hits the stage as Broadway's first black Cinderella

Written by . Published: September 10 2014

Singer/actress Keke Palmer made history on Broadway on Tuesday night (09Sep14) when she became the first African-American to play fairytale princess Cinderella.

The Akeelah & the Bee star hit the stage for the final run of the hit musical and she admits she knows how important the role is.

She says, "Young black girls that think that certain things aren't possible, it's good for them to just be able to see someone that looks like them and lets them know it's possible, but it also lets them know that just because you have never seen it, doesn't mean that you can't be it."

And Palmer admits she was one of those girls who couldn't dream of playing Cinderella: "I didn't think I'd become an actress."
