Kate Hudson pens poem about world tragedies

Kate Hudson has penned a powerful poem in response to the tragedies and atrocities that have rocked the world in recent weeks.

Many celebrities have taken to social media to express their sadness and to call for change after the Orlando nightclub massacre, terror attacks in Bangladesh and Turkey, and the attacks on Dallas police officers on Thursday night (07Jul16) following the deaths of African-Africans Alton Sterling and Philando Castile at the hands of cops in the States this week.

And now the Almost Famous star has taken to Instagram to reflect on the loss of lives.

"These last months have brought so much sadness," she writes. "From Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Orlando shooting, Dallas, to terrorist attacks of late (in) Bangladesh, Istanbul, Baghdad, Somalia. Everyday there is violence like this reported and not reported. It becomes overwhelming that there could be such hatred and senseless killing. When I can't make sense of things I just start to write. I don't usually share my writing but I felt a desire to put this out there. Peace."

In the poem, Kate keeps with the theme of the shootings and violence, writing, "Shot in the dark, when the silver drops who wins, shot in the dark, why?"

The actress goes on to call for an end to violence: "I need to believe to hope to reach for faith that we as humans can create the space where change can be embraced," she adds. "We can't let fear rule for then we are too responsible for a world so cruel. Fear is who takes the shot in the dark and we must stop sitting back and watching the silver drop."
