Kanye West calls out fashion industry in scathing interview
Kanye West compared himself to Disney character Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph when it comes to his fashion career.
The rapper-turned-fashion guru isn't having the smoothest ride when it comes to his style endeavours at the moment, with his recent Yeezy Season 4 fashion show at New York Fashion Week mired by stories of a model fainting from the sweltering heat and an hour delay to the start of the presentation.
But during a chat with W magazine, conducted before the runway
show, Kanye took the opportunity to call out the fashion
industry.
"So you know when Penelope (Vanellope) puts together her car? And
she's like, 'Made it myself,' and everybody that has professional
cars, they say, 'Look at you with your little car and you're going
to do this,' and then they break her car, right?" he asked in the
new Royals issue. "That's basically the fashion world to me.
"You know I would basically take every dime I had, and I would get
overcharged by employees. I would get always looked at like I
didn't really have a clue about what I was doing and what I wanted
to say."
He goes on to compare his situation to Will Smith movie The Pursuit
of Happyness, animated film Despicable Me and Christmas flick Elf,
explaining all he wants to do is create things for the world to
enjoy.
Kanye also blasted his critics who don't think he takes fashion
seriously, and the people who couldn't relate to his tweet earlier
this year claiming he was $53 million in debt.
"It's not for you to relate to that... the people who know what...
I'm talking about know what... I'm talking about. I refuse people
who write me off as some rich kid taking a hobby, fashion as a
f**king hobby or a fashion plate."
He adds that he feels as though no one in fashion is on his side,
and reminds people he has an honorary doctorate from the School of
the Art Institute of Chicago, which he received last year.
