Justin Bieber smoked marijuana before arrest

Justin Bieber told police he had been smoking marijuana and downing booze in the hours leading up to his arrest on Thursday (23Jan14).

The teenager was detained by cops after he was spotted allegedly taking part in a drag race in Miami Beach, Florida in the early hours of the morning, and he subsequently failed a field sobriety test at the scene.

He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and resisting arrest without violence, and it has now emerged Bieber admitted to police officers that he had been smoking weed and drinking beer during the evening.

He had also been taking an unnamed prescription medication, and was driving on a 'non-valid' licence, according to local cops.

A police spokesman says, "I don't have the levels. It's a combination, when you have narcotics - marijuana and alcohol - it's the impairment - being impaired while you're driving."

The spokesman adds, "At first he was a little belligerent, questioning, using some choice words... He did acknowledge that he did take a prescription medication and that he had been smoking marijuana and that he had consumed a beer."

The police report filed after the star's arrest reveals Bieber had allegedly been racing his rented Lamborghini sports car at more than double the speed limit in a residential street, while the officer who detained him claimed the star stank of booze and had bloodshot eyes.

The report also states Bieber swore at the officers and demanded to know why he had been stopped.

The report goes on to reveal Bieber told the police he had been on his way home from a recording session at a studio when his car was stopped.

Bieber, who published pictures of himself driving around in the Lamborghini with a female friend prior to his arrest, was taken to a local police station before being transferred to Miami-Dade County jail later on Thursday. He was still in custody as WENN went to press, but it is believed bail has been set at $2,500.

Bieber's arrest sheet, which revealed he has been given the jail number 140003991, showed he was officially charged with DUI, resisting arrest, and driving on an invalid licence.

The driver of the other car which allegedly took part in the drag race has been named as R+B singer Khalil. The 19 year old, full name Khalil Sharief, also remains in police custody.
