Justin Bieber staged a surprise performance in the Philippines on Tuesday (10Dec13) for victims of devastating Typhoon Haiyan.

The Baby hitmaker launched a charity drive to help those affected by the disaster earlier this month (Dec13), offering fans the chance to win studio time with him by donating as little as $10 to relief efforts.

On Tuesday, he arrived unannounced in one of the country's worst hit regions, Leyte, and performed a special mini-show for fans.

Bieber, who has been in Australia on his Believe world tour, later took to his Instagram.com account to share pictures of him meeting Filipino fans and videos of him singing Christmas carols.

In a series of posts on the social networking site he urged his fans to donate to relief efforts, writing, "Special show in the affected areas #pray4philippines. You've changed my life thank you... Flew to the affected areas in the Philippines, please do what you can to help... I saw the devastation first hand today. They need our help."

More than 5,000 people are thought to have been killed by Typhoon Haiyan, with many more left homeless.
