Justin Bieber leads tribute to Paris victims at awards ceremony

Justin Bieber led a moment's silence at the Nickelodeon HALO Awards to honor the victims of the terror attacks in Paris.

The singer received the inaugural Hall of Fame Award at the ceremony in New York on Saturday (14Nov15) for his work with the Make-A-Wish charity, and educational organization Pencils for Promise.

Justin used his acceptance speech to encourage the audience to remember the victims of the atrocities in Paris, where more than 120 died in a series of horrifying attacks on Friday night (13Nov15).

After taking to the stage to pick up his trophy, Justin was visibly emotional as he told the crowd, "There's been some sad things happening in the world right now, and I think that we should all honor that and just take one moment of silence for that, if you guys could."

After the silence, he asked the audience for a round of applause, and added, "Let's make this world a little bit better."

On Saturday, Justin's guitarist Dan Kanter posted a tribute on his Facebook.com page to Thomas Ayed, one of the Universal Music Group employees who was killed in the attack on Paris' Bataclan music venue.

"Deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Thomas Ayed last night in Paris. We've been so close with Universal France for the last 6 years and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the entire Universal France family. Thomas was a wonderful, kindhearted person, who always went over and above - especially for... me," he wrote.

"Years ago on a day off in Paris, Metallica were in town and they wouldn't allow any guests. Thomas accompanied me while pretending I was a Universal France intern - so I could meet James (Metallica frontman James Hetfield) and spend the day at the TV station watching them rehearse and later perform. He will be missed. What a horrific tragedy."

The HALO Awards, which also featured performances by Fifth Harmony and Joe Jonas, will air on the Nickelodeon channel on 29 November (15).
