Justin Bieber forced DJ Khaled to play hockey before collaboration
Justin Bieber made Dj Khaled play hockey before agreeing to feature on his hit record I'm The One.
The music producer and the Sorry singer are longtime friends, and after Khaled first heard the instrumental beat from producer Nic Nac for the tune, he knew he wanted Bieber to perform on the track.
After reaching out, Khaled was invited over to the singer's Los Angeles house in January (17), where he decided to ask Bieber to be a part of the song, which also features Chance the Rapper, Quavo from Migos, and Lil Wayne.
However, to get Bieber on board, the Canadian-born star first insisted he participate in an unusual rite of passage.
"I hung up, jumped in the Rolls(-Royce) and brought a PA (stereo system) just to make sure I presented it right," Khaled recalled to Billboard, adding that the singer made the DJ play a match of ground hockey before leaving.
"I took the beating for the song," laughed Khaled.
I'm The One debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May, giving the 41-year-old his first-ever number one.
Meanwhile, Bieber, 23, also took the time to pay tribute to his talented friend in the interview.
"He's got an amazing ear for hits, and when I heard the beat for this track, (Bieber's collaborator) Poo Bear and I decided to jump on and write the hook," he told the publication. "Khaled is a good friend and a lot of fun to be around, and when he believes in something, he makes you believe."
The star-studded track comes from the hitmaker's tenth album Grateful which will be released on 23 June (17). It also features appearances by Beyoncé, Jay Z, Drake, and Rihanna.
