Julianne and Derek Hough developing ballroom dancing show
Actress Julianne Hough is teaming up with her brother Derek to produce a TV show about the world of competitive ballroom dancing.
The Rock of Ages star and her sibling Derek Hough, who have both enjoyed success on TV show Dancing With the Stars, are developing a scripted program called Blackpool, which will focus on the politics and darker side of the profession.
Julianne tells The Hollywood Reporter, "When you're in the world,
you're so invested. It's literally the be-all and end-all. But when
you step back from it, you see that obsession with perfection and
the fact that the lifestyle that you thought was so glamorous is
actually a little shocking."
And although the 24 year old, who struggled with emotional abuse
while living in England as a young dancer, plans on incorporating
some of her own experiences into the project, she's adamant it
won't be autobiographical.
She adds, "We definitely want it to be fictionalised. We're going
to start with our experiences in the world and stories that we've
either seen or gone through, but it'll be fun to be able to
elaborate and fictionalise these characters."
The drama will air on American network Starz, with both stars also
signing on to assist with the choreography.
