Johnny Depp's charm won him role in Fantastic Beasts
Johnny Depp won the role of Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them because he can be simultaneously seductive and scary.
The first installment of J.K. Rowling’s latest foray into the wizarding world hits cinemas from Wednesday (16Nov 16), and sees Eddie Redmayne take on the lead role of Magiczoologist Newt Scamander. Set 70 years before Harry Potter begins, Eddie is joined by Colin Farrell and Katherine Waterston in the magical movie.
Johnny has been cast as villain Gellert Grindelwald for the next
film, with producer David Heyman asserting that there is no one
better for the role.
“One of the things about Johnny is that he's an artist, he's a
great actor, he has created iconic characters, he's played those
parts in a surprising way,” David told cinemablend.com. “And I
think that's what we wanted. We wanted someone with authority and
charm, who could seduce you in one hand but kill you in the other,
and who would be surprising. Who is a great actor, who you could
imagine in the world.”
David also worked on the Harry Potter movies, producing all eight
films. He’s once again joining forces with director David Yates,
who helmed the last four Potter features, and the pair is locked in
for the next Fantastic Beasts movies. Rowling has confirmed there
will be five in total.
Joining in Johnny in the second chapter is Zoe Kravitz, who takes
on the role of Leta Lestrange.
