Jo Dee Messina reaches Kickstarter goal
Jo Dee Messina's generous fans have helped the country star fund her next album by donating $111,045 (GBP71,641) to the cause.
The singer appealed to fans on crowdsourcing website Kickstarter.com for help in covering the costs of her latest project, My Time Our Music, and in less than 30 days the 42 year old smashed her goal of reaching $100,000 (GBP65,000).
As WENN went to press, 833 backers had contributed to the campaign
and the star admits she couldn't be more grateful for all their
support.
In a post on Facebook.com, she writes, "I have to start by thanking
every single one of you that believed in my crazy idea. To those
who TOOK THE TIME to read what it was about. Give your input on
song selection. Those who cared enough to join the team and be a
part of something unique and exciting. I am truly grateful. This is
YOUR record...
"I believe when people join together they can do amazing things.
You guys proved that. You are a part of this. For that, I am truly
grateful."
Messina isn't the only celebrity to use Kickstarter.com to fund
projects - filmmakers Zack Braff and Rob Thomas turned to the
website to seek help donations for new films and movie star Samuel
L. Jackson recently launched a new charity initiative on the site
by offering up a day out with him as a prize to one lucky
donor.
