Jessica Simpson has a baby girl

Jessica Simpson has become a May Day mom after giving birth to a baby girl on Tuesday (01May12).

The singer-turned-fashion designer and her football star fiance Eric Johnson welcomed daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson at a Los Angeles hospital.

The little girl weighed in at nine pounds and 13 ounces and the new mom confirmed the news in a post on her website shortly afterwards.

The official announcement reads: "Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson. We are so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!"

Jessica Simpson confirmed her pregnancy news on Halloween (31Oct11) after months of speculation about her expanding baby belly.

The newborn is the first for both Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson.
