Jennifer Lopez to perform tribute to Selena at Billboard Latin Music Awards
Jennifer Lopez is planning to pay tribute to tragic singer Selena Quintanilla as part of a musical tribute at the upcoming Billboard Latin Music Awards.
The On The Floor hitmaker's portrayal of the singer in 1997 biopic Selena was Lopez's first big movie hit, and now she will honor the late Tejano superstar once again on the 20th anniversary of her death.
Lopez made the announcement on network Telemundo on Thursday
(16Apr15) - what would have been Quintanilla's 44th birthday.
She said, "It's an honor, a great honor to be able to, 20 years
after her death, to do a tribute for Selena. She continues to be
someone that inspires. It's something that excites me very much.
And I want to do something special, very special - just like she
was - in this tribute."
Quintanilla was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar, the president
of her fan club, on 31 March, 1995.
The Billboard Latin Music Awards will also feature performances
from Alejandro Sanz, Carlos Santana, Carlos Vives, Daddy Yankee,
Juanes and others. The Florida prizegiving will take place at the
BankUnited Center at the University of Miami on 30 April (15).
