Jennifer Lopez launches World of Dance social media challenge
Jennifer Lopez is giving fans the chance to appear on her upcoming TV competition World Of Dance by taking part in a new social media challenge.
The superstar will serve as a judge on the reality show, on which amateur artists will get the opportunity to compete for a grand prize of $1 million . Singer Ne-Yo and professional dancer Derek Hough will join her on the panel.
The series will premiere in the U.S. on 30 May (17) and to celebrate, J.Lo has launched a competition, calling on devotees to film themselves performing a simple sequence of moves set to the sounds of her hit On the Floor, and upload them to social media, with the hashtag #WorldofDanceChallenge.
Fans can learn the dance steps from a video Lopez has posted online, and the top contenders will have their footage appear in a collage of clips for the World of Dance TV debut.
"We're crowdsourcing, we're doing a challenge," Jennifer explained on U.S. breakfast show Today. "We're gonna put together a video of people who do this challenge and we're gonna show it on the show. So you will be on... World of Dance. Everybody can do it."
World of Dance will be hosted by Step Up dancer/actress Jenna Dewan Tatum, while Lopez, who was previously a judge on talent show American Idol, will also serve as an executive producer of the new reality series.
J.Lo also promoted the dance challenge on social media in a video announcement with Ne-Yo, Derek, and Jenna.
"Dance is a universal language anyone can speak," they say in the ad. "All you need is the right song, and let your body feel the music... Submit a video of yourself or your crew dancing for us to include in our epic dance video."
