Jennifer Lawrence: 'Adele's music changed my life'
Jennifer Lawrence has described Adele as an "international treasure" in a gushing tribute for TIME magazine.
The 27-year-old singer features in the 2016 TIME 100, the publication's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. In honour of her friend, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer, who also features on the list herself, penned a gushing essay describing the mother-of-one's greatest attributes.
The pair first met at the Academy Awards back in 2013, but
Jennifer's love of Adele's music started with the release of her
single Chasing Pavements back in 2008.
"Then when (Adele's 2011 album) 21 came out, mine and billions of
other lives were - not to sound dramatic - changed," Jennifer
wrote. "Suddenly there were words to that before-indescribable
pain, frustration, sadness, then revolution that all comes from a
breakup. I felt understood, I felt stronger, and above all, I
hadn’t sung in front of a mirror with a hairbrush since Destiny’s
Child."
Adele followed 21 with the release of 25 last year (15), which only
served to further her monumental worldwide success - as well as
once again increasing Jennifer's love for her music.
"The way she is able to capture herself, and then in turn us, has
turned her into a star that’s not a star we look at, but a giant
star with its own gravity that we are drawn to," she continues.
"All of this about her lyrics, and I haven’t even gotten started on
the voice - how could I? It’s once-in-a-lifetime."
Jennifer adds that Adele has "intelligence, 500-year-old wisdom and
patience and kindness all wrapped up in the tough skin of a damn
gangster".
Adele became a mother to son Angelo with partner Simon Konecki back
in 2012 and it's motherhood that has given the singer's life an
entirely different aspect, Jennifer writes.
"We all see her success. Her undeniable talent and beauty. But what
you don’t see is what a wonderful mother she is," she wrote. "What
a wonderful partner and friend she is. That she makes her son’s
Halloween costumes. Adele is a gift, an international treasure, but
she’s also sweet, funny, intelligent and beautiful. B**ch."
Other stars to feature on the 2016 TIME 100 include Gael Garcia
Bernal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Taraji P. Henson, Dwayne 'The Rock'
Johnson, Melissa McCarthy, Charlize Theron, Priyanka Chopra, Julia
Louis-Dreyfus, Caitlyn Jenner, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and
Kendrick Lamar.
