Jealous Eminem tempted to slam Kanye West and Lil Wayne in songs
Eminem has confessed he was tempted to write tracks slamming rappers such as Kanye West and Lil Wayne for their standout success while he was taking a hiatus from his music career.
After the Berzerk hitmaker concluded a tour to promote his record Encore in 2005, he took a break from the spotlight and didn't return until the release of his album Relapse in 2009.
During that time, Eminem tells Los Angeles radio station Power 106
that he had a hard time coping with the fact that other up and
coming rappers were taking over the game he once ruled, and was
eager to channel his jealousy into his songwriting.
He confesses, "For that time period when I was away, I was watching
what was going on in the game. Anything that was hot at that
moment, anybody that was really killing s**t. I felt so bad about
myself and the music that I was creating, I felt I was starting to
turn into a hater.
"Singling Kanye and Wayne out at that time period, they were the
ones killing it the most to me and it hurt. I'd pop a CD in and be
like, 'F**k man, I'm not doing this no more.'"
Eventually, Eminem steered clear from "dissing everybody", after
realising that slamming his peers would be "career suicide".
