Written by . Published: August 05 2014

Rap superstar Jay Z used his gig in California on Sunday (03Aug14) to throw his support behind a proposed new law to reduce prison time for non-violent offences.

The hip-hop mogul made a declaration in favour of California Proposition 47 during his concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with his wife Beyonce on Sunday night.

Jay Z took a stand for Prop 47, also known as the The Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, before launching into his hit track Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem), telling the crowd, "Prop 47! California! Build more schools, less prisons. More schools, less prisons. They will never be able to stop us!"

The new law, which will be voted on in November (14), aims to cut prison time for crimes including petty theft and drug possession and channel the money saved back into schools, rehab treatment programs and victims' services.
