Jay Z granted permit to hold Made in America in Los Angeles

Hip-hop mogul Jay Z will launch his Made In America festival in Los Angeles for the first time this summer (14) after winning permit approval from city councillors.

The Empire State of Mind hitmaker launched the event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2012, but his plans to hold the festival simultaneously at Los Angeles' Grant Park over Labor Day weekend at the end of August (14) hit a snag earlier this month (Apr14) when one local politician urged city bosses to hold off on granting the permit.

Jose Huizar raised concerns about the impact of the event on the local community amid fears the festival could draw as many as 50,000 people to downtown Los Angeles. He also called on police officials and other authorities to seriously consider public safety problems and any cost implications of the two-day bash.

However, his efforts failed to sway other city councillors and, on Wednesday (16Apr14), Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti teamed up with Jay Z to officially announce the L.A. launch of Made In America.

Line-ups for both events have yet to be revealed.
