Jay-Z fires back at critics in Open Letter

Hip-hop star Jay-Z has taken aim at critics in Open Letter, a new song addressing the negative press surrounding his recent trip to Cuba with wife Beyonce.

The superstar couple caused controversy last week (03Apr13) when they headed to Havana to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary. The government bans citizens from traveling to the country for tourism purposes, and the couple faced criticism from pro-democracy campaigners as well as two Republican politicians who demanded to know whether the stars had obtained the appropriate permission to travel to Cuba.

Jay-Z has now addressed the media furor surrounding the trip in a new track, produced by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.

In the record, released on Thursday (11Apr13), the rapper fires back at politicians, referencing their efforts to investigate his recent Cuba trip and even suggesting President Barack Obama is concerned about the controversy.

He raps, "I can turn Havana to Atlanta... Politicians never did s**t for me / except lie to me, distort history... They wanna give me jail time and a fine. Fine, let me commit a real crime. Obama said, 'Chill you're going to get me impeached'... You don't need this s**t anyway, chill with me on the beach'... I'm in Cuba, I love Cubans. This Communist talk is so confusing."

In Open Letter, Jay-Z also raps about his newly-signed deal with record company Universal and his new sports management company.
