Jay-Z asked Love for permission to use Cobain's lyrics on new album
Jay-Z's new album Magna Carta Holy Grail will feature lyrics written by the late Kurt Cobain, according to the rocker's widow Courtney Love.
The former Hole singer has revealed she gave the rapper permission to use lyrics from Nirvana hit Smells Like Teen Spirit, and admits she's concerned her estranged daughter Frances Bean will "freak" when she finds out.
Explaining her decision, Love, who owns the rights to her late
husband's music, tells The Huffington Post, "Jay-Z's huge and we're
friends."
The new album is set to become an instant hit when it is released
next month (Jul13) thanks to a deal Jay-Z has done with bosses at
Samsung - one million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail will be
given away for free to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users 72 hours
ahead of its official release on 4 July (13).
Samsung executives reportedly paid $5 (GBP3.20) for each copy of
the album, which will become available via an application that can
be downloaded at the end of June (13).
