Jay Z and Demi Lovato to join Coldplay at first Global Citizen Festival in India
Jay Z and Demi Lovato will join Coldplay at the inaugural Global Citizen Festival in India later this month (Nov16).
Coldplay were confirmed as headliners back in September (16) and now organizers have announced the band will hit the stage alongside Chris Martin's rapper pal and Lovato in Mumbai on 19 November (16).
As with other Global Citizen events, tickets will be free to fans
who sign up to become a part of the charity and agree to offer
support to "education, equality, and sanitation campaigns" in their
community and beyond.
The Mumbai show, which will mark Jay Z and Coldplay's first gigs in
India, will also feature actor Aamir Khan, Oscar-winning film
composer A.R. Rahman, and actor and singer Farhan Akhtar.
The concert bosses plan to use crowdfunding efforts to raise money
for children without parents and fund 25 children's homes across
the country. Miracle Foundation, the non-profit partner, also will
help enable education funds and scholarships.
The Global Citizen Festival launched in 2012 and takes place
annually in New York City's Central Park.
Foo Fighters, Black Keys, and John Legend were among the acts that
headlined the inaugural festival, while Jay Z and Coldplay
headlined the festival in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Demi Lovato
was the big star of this year's event in September (16).
Announcing Coldplay's headlining slot at the Mumbai event in
September (16), Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans told Billboard, "We
were very fortunate a few years ago when Prime Minister Narendra
Modi came onstage at the Global Citizen Festival in New York, and
then after that, we brought Chris Martin from Coldplay to Delhi to
meet with the Prime Minister about a year and a half ago and we
started working intensively on bringing Global Citizen to
India."
