Jamie Campbell Bower to star in Bend It Like Beckham musical

British actor Jamie Campbell Bower will appear in a stage adaptation of 2002 soccer film Bend It Like Beckham.

The Twilight Saga star will portray soccer club manager Joe, who recruits the lead character Jess for his local club the Harriers, which causes problems within her traditional Indian family.

Campbell Bower confirmed the news in a post on Twitter.com, writing, "Good morning. So the news is.... I shall be on stage in the West End starting this May in @BendItMusical!!!! So excited. Come and see us."

Jess, the role played by Parminder Nagra in the film, will be portrayed by newcomer Natalie Dew, while Keira Knightley's breakout part of Jules will be taken by British musical theatre star Lauren Samuels.

The musical will open for previews at London's Phoenix Theatre on 15 May (15).
