Idris Elba and Uzo Aduba are double winners as diversity rules at the SAG Awards

British star Idris Elba and Uzo Aduba were the big winners at the 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday night (30Jan16).

In what appeared to be a cultural poke at Oscars voters, who failed to nominate any black or minority actors or filmmakers for major Academy Awards honors, the SAG Awards were all about diversity.

Elba picked up the Outstanding Male Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries and Outstanding Male Actor in a Supporting Role trophies for Luther and Beasts of No Nation, respectively, while Aduba claimed the Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy Series prize and then joined her Orange is the New Black co-stars onstage at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles to collect the Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

There were also big wins for Viola Davis and Queen Latifah.

Jeffrey Tambor's transgender role in Transparent earned him a Male Actor award, and Alicia Vikander picked up the Outstanding Female Actor in a Supporting Role honor for her role as the wife of transsexual artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.

Meanwhile, Bree Larson and Leonardo DiCaprio all but stamped their names on their first Academy Awards next month (Feb16) after picking up the top movie acting honors for Home and The Revenant. The pair have emerged as clear favorites for the Oscars' top actress and actor prizes.

And the stars of Spotlight picked up the Outstanding Cast in a Motion Picture honor.
