Idris Elba and Macklemore's Dance Off video is a Twitter hit
Idris Elba and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis sparked a social media frenzy by releasing the video to new track Dance Off.
The British actor and musician features at the beginning of the video, dressed ostentatiously in a black and white fur coat and Homburg hat.
And The Jungle Book star, who is listed as a featured artist on
Dance Off, delivers its opening lines, "I challenge you to a dance
off/Hands off, no trash talk, no back walk/On the black top, just
me, you, that's all/No cat calls, no tag teams, no mascots."
Thanks to the cinematic promotional clip, directed by Ryan and
Jason Koenig and released late on Tuesday (17May16), the song
quickly rose to the top of Billboard Trending 140 chart, which
lists the songs shared the most on Twitter over the past hour.
Dance Off, for which Idris has a writing credit, first appeared on
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's second album together This Unruly Mess
I've Made, released in February.
Macklemore, who has worked with his friend Ryan, a DJ, since 2006,
was so delighted with the song's rise to the top of the trending
chart that he shared a photo of its number one status on
Instagram.
As well as his impressive acting career, Idris has long had a
sideline as a DJ and musician. He has appeared on albums by
Pharoahe Monch and Jay Z, and opened as a DJ for Madonna on the
Berlin leg of her Rebel Heart world tour last year (15).
Last month (Apr16), British dance legend Norman Cook revealed that
he had teamed up with the 43-year-old to record a track, which is
as yet unreleased.
