Green Day bring the fun to Reading Festival

Green Day turned Reading Festival into a fun-packed event on Friday night (23Aug13) by squirting the crowd with a water pistol and hurling toilet paper at revellers.

The American Idiot hitmakers were the main headliners at the festival in England, and were introduced to the stage by a man dressed in a pink rabbit costume, which had drummer Tre Cool's name emblazoned on its back.

They then graced the stage and played their third album, 1994's Dookie, following on from their warm-up performance in London on Wednesday (21Aug13).

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd, "This is no f**king party I have to admit. Come on, this ain't just any festival, this is the greatest festival in the world. When I first started playing punk rock music, I used to get my a**e kicked. Everyone thought I was a freak. Now I'm surrounded by many freaks."

He then brought a fan up on stage to sing Know Your Enemy, before rocking out to the band's hits Holiday, When September Ends and Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.

Ending the gig on a silly note, Armstrong soaked the crowd with a water gun, covered fans with toilet paper and shot T-shirts into the crowd from a launching device.

The rockers will headline Reading's sister site in Leeds on Saturday night (24Aug13).
