Good night for Oklahoma stars at CMT Music Awards

Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert made Oklahoma proud at the 2013 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday (05Jun13) after winning the night's top trophies.

The state was ravaged by a series of deadly tornadoes last month (May13) but fans were given some respite in the wake of the tragedy when homegrown star Underwood scooped the biggest prize of the night, Video Of The Year, for Blown Away, seeing off competition from heavyweights including Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, and Taylor Swift.

Just moments before accepting the coveted trophy, the former American Idol winner sang her latest single See You Again with a church choir and dedicated the emotional performance to victims of the disasters in her home state.

Underwood was then given a standing ovation from her fans and peers at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.

Country music queen Lambert - who lives in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, with her husband Shelton - also walked away with two more gongs to add to her collection: Female Video of the Year for Mama's Broken Heart and CMT Performance of the Year.

Oklahoma-born Shelton, who was unable to attend, nabbed Male Video of the Year for Sure Be Cool If You Did, and his wife picked up the award on his behalf, telling the crowd, "Blake couldn't be here tonight, he's on a plane. He tried really hard to get here... But I'm gonna take this home on his behalf. Honey, I'm drinking for two tonight. I love you!"

Other CMT winners included Lady Antebellum (Group Video of the Year - Downtown), Florida Georgia Line (Breakthrough Video of the Year and Duo Video of the Year - Cruise), Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Eric Church (Collaborative Video of the Year - The Only Way I Know).

The evening, which was co-hosted by Aldean and new mum Kristen Bell, also featured performances from Swift, Hunter Hayes, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker and Keith Urban.
