George Clooney raises $15 million for Barack Obama's re-election

George Clooney gave President Barack Obama's re-election campaign a huge boost after making $15 million at a fundraiser on Thursday night (10May12).


The Oscar-winning hunk invited 150 celebrities and VIPs to the dinner at his Los Angeles mansion in a bid to raise donations to help Obama get into office for a second term when America goes to the polls in November (12).


Superstars including Barbra Streisand, Robert Downey Jr., Tobey Maguire, Eddie Murphy, Billy Crystal, Salma Hayek and Jack Black were out in force for the event, which cost a $40,000 -a-head.


The dinner raised $6 million while online donations brought in an extra $9 million - making it a record-breaking amount for one single presidential election fundraiser.


Obama made a speech at the dinner, and revealed he was thrilled to have a popular A-list supporter such as Clooney.


He told the famous crowd, "We raised a lot of money because everybody loves George. They like me, they love him. And rightfully so."
