Frozen musical heading to Broadway in 2018
The musical adaptation of blockbuster Disney film Frozen is officially heading to Broadway in 2018.
A stage production of the beloved family movie has been in development since early 2014, and on Tuesday (09Feb16), bosses at Disney Theatrical Productions finally announced the show will be heading to the Great White Way in the spring of 2018, at a theatre to be announced.
Prior to its Broadway bow, an out-of-town try-out will premiere
next summer (17) at a venue and city also to be announced.
Executives behind the show previously revealed that the 2013 film's
Oscar-winning composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez
will write the music for the production, while the movie's
co-director Jennifer Lee is penning the book.
Newcomers to the creative team include director Alex Timbers, who
previously helped develop Disney-owned property Peter and the
Starcatcher for the stage, and Tony Award winner Peter Darling as
the show's choreographer.
A sequel to Frozen, which is the highest-grossing animated film of
all time was confirmed by Disney executives last year (15), and
Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad will
reprise their original roles in the new film, according to The
Hollywood Reporter.
Casting for the Frozen musical has not been set, but all four
leads, Menzel, Bell, Groff, and Gad, are all Broadway veterans.
