Foundation unveiled on Amy Winehouse's birthday

Amy Winehouse's parents launched a charity in her memory on Wednesday (14Sep11) to mark what would have been the tragic singer's 28th birthday.

The Amy Winehouse Foundation will benefit organisations supporting vulnerable young people, including those battling addiction and ill health.

And her parents, Mitch and Janis, hope the Rehab hitmaker's legacy will live on through the charity.

Mum Janis says, "We want to give money to projects that make a direct difference. It is a source of great comfort to know that Amy would be proud of this and (be) right behind it."

One of the first donations will come from sales of Winehouse's duet with Tony Bennett, Body + Soul.

Winehouse was found dead at the age of 27 in her London apartment on 23 July (11). An inquest into her death is due to be held next month (Oct11).
