Fast food chain bosses win Pharrell Williams' hat at auction

Written by . Published: March 03 2014

The iconic hat which Pharrell Williams wore during the 2014 Grammy Awards has been purchased by bosses at fast food chain Arby's, which boasts a logo bearing a striking resemblance to the singer's bizarre headwear.

The Happy hitmaker donned the Vivienne Westwood-designed piece at the music prizegiving in January (14), and many viewers decided the hat looked very similar to the restaurant's cowboy hat emblem.

Shortly after Williams made his debut on the Grammys red carpet, a post from the Arby's Twitter.com account read, "Hey @Pharrell, can we have our hat back?", to which Williams responded, "Y'all tryna (sic) start roast beef?", referring to the company's signature roast beef sandwiches.

Last month (Feb14), Williams decided to retire the hat and put it up for sale on online auction site eBay.com to benefit his From One Hand to Another charity.

The auction ended on Sunday (02Mar14) - the same day Williams performed at the Oscars - and Arby's bosses purchased the hat for $44,100.

Prior to finding out it was Arby's executives who had purchased the headpiece, Williams thanked the winner of the auction on the microblogging site, prompting a reply from restaurant representatives: "You're welcome. We're HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back."
