Eva Longoria: 'I was a victim of iPhone hack'
Actress Eva Longoria has revealed her iPhone was hacked by an Apple employee after she visited one of the company's stores in her native Texas in a bid to fix a technical issue.
Longoria was not among the many female stars who woke up on Sunday (31Aug14) to find their privacy had been violated by a hacker who leaked celebrity nudes online, but she admits she has been a victim in the past.
The former Desperate Housewives star tells Access Hollywood Live
she discovered she had an unwelcome new email contact after a visit
to an Apple Store in San Antonio, revealing a staff member offered
to send her a dress she had made.
Longoria says, "(She wrote), 'I work at the Apple Store here in San
Antonio'."
The stunned star immediately attempted to track down the employee
and find out how the security breach had occurred, asking store
bosses, "Did someone give out my email? Or my phone?"
The actress claims the individual who allegedly hacked into her
account and got in touch eventually responded and told Longoria, "I
saw your phone number from your profile, I just wanted to call and
say hi, I'm a fan."
Apple bosses launched an investigation following Sunday's security
breach and assured customers it was "a very targeted attack" and
not an issue with their iCloud servers, as previously
indicated.
A statement read: "After 40 hours of investigation, we have
discovered that certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a
very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security
questions, a practise that has become all too common on the
Internet."
Jennifer Lawrence, Victoria Justice and Kate Upton's
representatives have threatened to take legal action against the
culprit behind the nude photo leak.
