Eva Green still traumatized by school

Written by . Published: September 27 2016

Eva Green still gets the sweats when she thinks about her “traumatizing” school years.

The 36-year-old actress plays the titular character in Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, about a facility for specially gifted youngsters. While her alter ego is inspiring to the audiences, Eva’s own experience with authority figures when she was a child weren’t as positive and still linger with her now.

“I hated school so much,” she admitted to Britain’s Time Out London magazine. “I’m traumatized still by it. I had lots of scary teachers. I’m sweating just at the thought of it. I was traumatized by the French system until the age of 16 and then for a year between the ages of 16 and 17 I went to an American school.”

Eva describes herself as a shy teenager, rarely attending birthday parties and being dubbed strange because she didn’t talk much. After a while, she became convinced she was odd after being called it so many times, despite not feeling it.

Her anxious nature resurfaced on the set of Miss Peregrine’s, despite previously teaming up with director Tim on 2012’s Dark Shadows.

“First of all he’s an iconic artist – I grew up with Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice. They were my favorite movies. Also, he’s so open and normal and humble,” Eva praised. “I didn’t want to disappoint him. I said: ‘You’re going to fire me!’ But he understands that I’m quite shy and nervous.”

Of course, she wasn’t let go from the project, despite her worries, and Eva admits she’s the same on all productions when the first day arrives.

Her various film characters, which include Eva in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Artemisia in 300: Rise of an Empire, all boast out-there appearances which would make perfect Halloween costumes.

When quizzed on whether she celebrates the spooky holiday, the star explained it isn’t something done in France, though pals joke she celebrates Halloween every day.
