Ellie Kemper: 'My pregnancy plans went out the window!'

Ellie Kemper is disappointed in herself for not living up to her pregnancy plans.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt actress is expecting her first child with her husband Michael Koman, and told chat show host Stephen Colbert on Thursday night (30Jun16) that she's in the "home stretch" of the pregnancy.

Despite counting down the days until she welcomes her new arrival into the world, Ellie admitted that she had big plans while she was expecting, but has now run out of time.

"I'm a little disappointed in myself because before I was pregnant I had vowed to do all these things during my pregnancy to nurse a health pregnancy and so, I’m finding in these final weeks that I didn’t do any of them!" Ellie laughed. "Playing classical music to my kid, reading War and Peace to my kid..."

Supplements are an important addition to any pregnant woman's diet, and one thing Ellie was determined to do was include some Omega 3 in her eating regime. To do so, she splashed out on a huge batch of sardines, but admitted: "The reason I didn’t eat any sardines is because I hate sardines!"

Colbert then produced a sardine-topped biscuit for Ellie to try. While the 36-year-old struggled to control her feelings about the fishy delicacy, she laughed: "I'm a selfless mother, so... I'm going to, for baby!" before stuffing the biscuit into her mouth.

Pulling a variety of hilarious faces, Ellie managed to spit out that she "doesn't like it!", but added: "On the other hand, I can feel baby getting smarter!"

Another person eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby Kemper is Ellie's mother Dorothy.

"My mother is very excited," Ellie admitted. "She has a lot of good advice. She has four children, I'm one of them, my brother has three kids but this will be her first grandchild from me…"
