Ed Sheeran re-records hit song in Gaelic
British pop star Ed Sheeran has re-recorded his hit song Thinking Out Loud in Gaelic.
The Sing star has re-titled the track Ag Smaoineamh Os Ard for inclusion on a new Irish language compilation album which will be distributed to schools across the country as part of a drive to promote the use of Gaelic.
The record also features contributions from acts including
Kodaline, The Coronas and Hudson Taylor and is part of a drive by
Conradh na Gaeilge, an organization which promotes the Irish
language, Gaelic language radio station Raidio Ri-Ra, and national
station RTE 2fm.
RTE 2fm presenter Eoghan McDermott, who is curating the compilation
album, says of the scheme, "Getting Ed Sheeran to record a bespoke
version of one of the biggest songs in the world is incredible. The
fact he is singing as Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic) makes it all the
better.
"Ed and the host of other incredible musicians on our CD shows that
the use of the Irish language is being revolutionised at the
moment, particularly in music. This album shows that anyone can
speak as Gaeilge and that we should all give it a go."
Ed's new version of the track has been posted online.
