Drake facing lawsuit over axed Chicago concerts

Drake is facing a lawsuit from concert promoters in Chicago, Illinois amid allegations of breach of contract after backing out of two shows in 2012.

Organisers from Status Entertainment claim the Started from the Bottom hitmaker initially signed a $250,000 deal to perform a show in Chicago in March, 2012, but the event had to be cancelled.

His representatives agreed to refund the $100,000 advance he had received for the gig, but reportedly failed to do so.

In June, 2012, Status Entertainment bosses tried to work with the 27 year old again for a show at a larger venue, but he is accused of dropping out of the commitment after they refused to pay him more than the previously agreed amount.

According to legal papers filed in an Illinois court last week (ends13Dec13), a spokesperson for Drake claimed the price for the performance had changed "because our value went up".

He was allegedly paid a $100,000 advance for the second show as well.

The concert planners are suing for breach of contract and unjust enrichment fraud, and are seeking the return of more than $200,000 , plus interest and court fees.
