Demi Lovato tells fans to 'chill' over Kathy Griffin tweets

Written by . Published: March 26 2014

Singer Demi Lovato has encouraged her fans to "chill" after they sent a barrage of hateful messages to comedienne Kathy Griffin for insulting her on Twitter.com.

Earlier this week (begs24Mar14), Griffin was asked who is the "biggest douche celebrity" she has ever met, and the funnywoman replied, "Probably Demi Lovato", but the post has since been deleted from the microblogging site.

Ardent followers of Lovato quickly came to the defense of their idol, sending insulting tweets to Griffin suggesting she should commit suicide or fall victim to a murderer.

But Lovato took to Twitter on Tuesday (25Mar14) to personally apologize to Griffin, writing, "@kathygriffin no one should ever wish those things upon ANYONE. I apologize on others behalf. I do NOT approve of that at all. Sorry 4 (for) that."

She also posted a message for her followers, telling them, "I love you guys so much but y'all gotta chill with sending hate towards other people. Regardless of what they say or do...

"The cruel things some of you are saying can really, REALLY hurt people. It's called cyber-bullying and somethings should NEVER be wished upon EVER. No matter WHAT. It makes me so sad to see how mean people can really be after all I've spoken out about anti-bullying. Be an example for other haters.

"I know my #Lovatics are better than that. I really appreciate you guys always having my back but this is going way too far. Please spread. Not hate."
