David Beckham celebrates 40th birthday by joining Instagram

Soccer star David Beckham has joined Instagram.com to celebrate turning 40 on Saturday (02May15).

The British sportsman, who has jetted to Marrakech, Morocco with a host of celebrity friends to ring in the landmark day, opted to sign up to the photosharing site to post images of his festivities.

His first image was a black and white 'selfie' taken from bed, with the caption, "Good morning and hello! It's great to finally be on Instagram, been a long time coming but I can't wait to start sharing all my special moments with you. Thank you for all your birthday messages so far. Looking forward to a great day with friends and family x"

Beckham went on to share a series of sun-soaked poolside pictures, while his wife Victoria used Twitter.com to discuss the celebrations, writing, "So excited to be spending this special day with David and the kids in Marrakech! x vb"

The famous couple has been joined by celebrity pals including Hollywood star Liv Tyler and her husband and David's best friend, Dave Gardner, alongside celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife Tana.
