Danny Boyle took Olympics job for his father

Danny Boyle took on the job of directing the Olympics opening in honour of his late father, who would have turned 91 on Friday (27Jul12).

The Trainspotting director has won critical acclaim for his work on the opening ceremony in London, but he admits the celebrations are bittersweet - and he wishes Frank Boyle, who passed away last year (11), had lived long enough to see the Olympics come to the U.K. capital.

The moviemaker tells Britain's The Times newspaper, "He didn't quite make it... I took (this job) because my dad was an Olympics nut. I remember watching grainy pictures from Mexico 1968. He turned me into a mad Olympic fan.
