Clive Davis to offer Anne Hathaway Broadway lead in My Fair Lady

Music mogul Clive Davis has set his sights of persuading Anne Hathaway to star in a planned Broadway revival of stage hit My Fair Lady following her Oscar-nominated performance in movie musical Les Miserables.

The man who guided Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin and Alicia Keys to superstardom is working on a production on the New York stage and he has high hopes of landing Hathaway as his leading lady.

Davis tells USA Today that the actress and British star Colin Firth are his "first choices" to take on the roles of Eliza Doolittle and Professor Henry Higgins. Firth was previously linked to a movie version of My Fair Lady in 2010, opposite Carey Mulligan, but the big screen plans fell through.

Davis is working with theater veterans Roger Berlind and Scott Landis on the new revival.

My Fair Lady last hit the New York stage in 1993, with Melissa Errico as Doolittle.

Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison teamed up as Doolittle and Higgins in the beloved 1964 movie adaptation of the musical.
