Christopher Nolan keeping Batman ending secret from cast

Written by . Published: September 19 2011

Director Christopher Nolan is so determined to keep the plotline of the latest Batman film a secret from the public, he is refusing to even let the actors know the ending.

The filmmaker is currently shooting scenes for The Dark Knight Rises, starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader alongside Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman.

Nolan has devised a number of methods to ensure even the castmembers are kept in the dark as to how the movie wraps up, including sending out scripts with pages missing, and Oldman, who plays police commissioner Jim Gordon in the franchise, is convinced he is the only actor to have been told details of the final scenes.

He says, "Christopher doesn't want anyone to ruin it and I completely understand that. The newer people on the film go to his office to read the script.

"They sent mine out, but it had to be hand-delivered directly to me and nobody else. And the final few pages were missing. I went along and talked to Christopher and in person about the ending. Then I locked it away in my head."

Oldman's co-star in the film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is also urging fans to not seek spoilers, telling viewers they "will have the best experience if (they) just trust" Nolan.
