Christina Grimmie's family thank fans on one-year anniversary of her death

Late singer Christina Grimmie's family have thanked fans for their support on the one-year anniversary of her death.

The singer-songwriter, who was a contestant on The Voice U.S., was shot and killed in a targeted attacked that followed a performance in Orlando, Florida on 10 June, 2016.

To mark Christina's tragic passing, her family released a statement on Sunday (11Jun17) in which they offered gratitude to her fans for remembering their daughter, who was aged 22 when she died.

"We want to take this moment to say thank you to Christina's legion of fans worldwide and all the partners who contributed and are still contributing to her legacy," they captioned a beautiful photo of Christina, which was posted on Facebook. "Your prayers, love, encouragement and support have been felt by us as a family and we are humbled and deeply appreciative. We too, are still healing, but know that we love each and every one of you. Thank you for your support!"

Christina was shot after performing as the opening act for band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live venue, while she signed autographs. Her brother Marcus heroically tackled the gunman, Kevin James Loibl, to the ground, before the latter turned the gun on himself.

The heartbreaking message from the Grimmie family comes a day after her fans held a memorial gathering outside The Plaza Live. A group of her followers paid tribute by singing her songs, lighting candles and laying flowers outside the venue.

In February (17), Christina's family released her single Invisible to establish a memorial fund in her name. They released her posthumous album, All Is Vanity, on Friday (09Jun17).
