Chris Brown is a victim of identity theft

Chris Brown is at the center of a police investigation after his identification card was allegedly stolen and put up for sale online.

The singer is believed to have left the document at San Bernardino County Jail in California after spending two nights there during a transfer to Washington, D.C. while he was behind bars as part of a long-running legal battle last year (14).

Brown's lawyer discovered this month (Jan15) that the missing ID card had turned up for sale online, so he contacted officers at the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department, who launched an investigation to track down the document.

Editors at TMZ.com report a suspect has been questioned and police are looking into how the card left the jail.
