Chiquis Rivera makes Billboard chart history with new number one
Jenni Rivera's singer daughter Chiquis has made U.S. chart history after landing at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums countdown, making her the first female to do so in 2015.
Chiquis Rivera's debut project, Ahora, sold 7,000 copies in its first week to score the top spot, a feat no female artist has achieved since her late mother's posthumous disc, 1 Vida-3 Historias: Matamorfosis - Despedida de Culican, was released in December (14).
The success of Ahora also makes the mother/daughter duo the first
to each score number ones on the chart, and only the third
parent/child in Billboard history to take solo discs to the top -
Vincente and Alejandro Fernandez and Julio and Enrique Iglesias are
the only other superstar relatives.
In addition, Chiquis' chart-topper makes the Riveras the only
family to have three individual members hit the top spot as solo
acts - Jenni's brother, Lupillo Rivera, previously enjoyed a number
one on the Top Latin Albums list.
Jenni Rivera was killed in a plane crash in Mexico on 9 December,
2012, aged 43.
