Catching Fire too hot for Frozen at box office over record-breaking Thanksgiving
Disney's new winter-themed movie Frozen hasn't been able to put out The Hunger Games' fire at the box office.
The animated hit, featuring the voices of Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, debuted with a stunning five-day $93 million take to become Disney's biggest opening ever, but it wasn't enough to unseat The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, which kept the number one spot warm with $110.2 million.
The film has now scored a box office total of $296.5 million since
its release on 22 November (13).
Movie fans also gave cinemas an early Christmas gift by swarming to
theatres to check out the two films - giving the industry its
biggest overall Thanksgiving weekend on record, topping the $291
million collected last year by movies including The Twilight Saga:
Breaking Dawn Part 2, Skyfall and Lincoln.
Rounding out the new top five are: Thor: The Dark World, The Best
Man Holiday and newly-released thriller Homefront.
