Carey Mulligan moved in with Refn during Drive shoot
Carey Mulligan had nowhere to live while she was shooting Drive in Los Angeles so she moved in with the film's director, Nicolas Winding Refn.
The Oscar-nominee plays a woman who falls in love with a Hollywood stunt performer moonlighting as a getaway driver, played by Ryan Gosling, in the new movie.
Mulligan found herself homeless as shooting was about to start and she was rumoured to have taken up residence in a downmarket hotel following her split from boyfriend Shia LaBeouf, but she has now revealed Refn offered her a place to stay.
She tells BBC Breakfast, "I moved in with Nick because I didn't have anywhere to live in L.A... so when I wasn't working we hung out..."
Mulligan also revealed Drive was the first role she took after nearly a year without work - as she struggled to find any interesting projects to tackle.
She adds, "I hadn't worked in about a year. I was just looking for something to do that was exciting. I think a lot of the stuff I was reading was stuff that was similar to parts I had already played... I was looking for something I was a bit nervous about doing."
