Britney Spears confirms two-year residency in Las Vegas
Britney Spears has confirmed rumours she is to take Las Vegas by storm with a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood.
The singer officially announced the news in a pre-taped interview from Sin City for breakfast show Good Morning America, which aired on Tuesday (17Sep13), revealing she will be performing 50 concerts a year for her Britney: Piece of Me show.
In the video she says, "I love Vegas, the energy here is really,
really good. I'm definitely going to do the greatest hits, but I'm
going to have to put some of my new material in it, just to keep it
fresh."
Spears will treat fans to a theatre atmosphere, mixed with a club
feel during the performances.
She adds, "We wanted the environment to be that way so people could
come and have a good time and stand up and feel like they're in the
show with me."
After the announcement aired, the singer was flown via helicopter
to the Nevada desert, where she was surprised by more than 1,000
fans dressed in her signature schoolgirl outfit from the ...Baby
One More Time video, who were holding up cards to form giant
pictures of the Toxic hitmaker.
She told them, "This is amazing, this is so cool. This is such a
sweet thing to do. I don't even know what to say, I'm speechless.
This is so... I can't believe it, it's shocking."
However, Spears admitted she was still recovering after feeling ill
during the helicopter flight, "Actually I got sick in the
helicopter, I was like, 'Oh my god'."
She even took to Twitter.com following the incident to swear off
choppers forever, writing, "Y'all that will be the last time u
(you) EVER see me in a helicopter. Love u GMA + that was INCREDIBLE
but helicopters are not for this girl."
Spears has reportedly signed a $15 million-a-year contract with
Planet Hollywood bosses, which averages $310,000 per show.
The concerts and helicopter ban were not the only announcements
Spears had for her fans - her eighth studio album will be out on 3
December (13), one day after her 32nd birthday.
