Bollywood stars welcome Prince William and the Duchess to India
Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were among the Bollywood stars who gathered on Sunday (10Apr16) to welcome Prince William and his wife to India.
The British royals arrived in Mumbai on Sunday morning and Indian officials celebrated their visit by throwing a star-studded fundraising gala for local children's organizations at the Taj Palace hotel.
Other Bollywood names in attendance included Aamir Khan, Rishi
Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, and Slumdog Millionaire
actor Anil Kapoor, while cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar was also
among the guests, after having taken on Prince William and
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, in a friendly game with local
children earlier in the day.
The Prince, 33, dressed up in a classic black tuxedo, as the
Duchess, 34, wowed in a heavily beaded royal blue Jenny Packham
gown, accessorising her outfit with earrings from Indian jeweller
Amrapali.
Addressing the crowd at the glittering bash, William admitted their
trip was a dream come true for his wife.
"When Catherine and I were married, India was the first place on
Catherine's list that she told me that she wanted to visit," he
said. "Two children and five years later, we have finally made it -
and we are both honored to be here."
As part of their seven-day trip, the couple will also stop by
India's iconic Taj Mahal monument, which served as the backdrop for
one of the most famous photographs of Prince William's mother, the
late Diana, Princess of Wales, when she visited in 1992.
