Beyonce helping Flint water crisis victims
Beyonce is supporting victims of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan with her latest charity initiative.
The Halo star has previously supported a number of good causes through her #BeyGOOD initiative, handing out school supplies to students across the country and providing money to help a church charity mission in her native Houston, Texas.
She is now turning her attention to the residents of Flint,
Michigan, who have been unable to use their water supplies since
2014 due to pollution in a local river, by providing assistance to
the United Way of Genesee County organisation and the Community
Foundation of Greater Flint, which are offering aid to
residents.
A statement released by tour promoters Live Nation Entertainment,
the company behind Beyonce's newly-announced The Formation World
Tour, reads, "True to her life's work of always giving back, fans
will be given the opportunity to participate in Beyonce's #BeyGOOD
initiative supporting local United Way programs and the continued
work surrounding the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. United Way of
Genesee County has been at the forefront of distributing thousands
of filtration pitchers, faucet mount filters, replacement
cartridges and truckloads of water to underserved (sic) populations
to address immediate needs in Flint Michigan.
"They are also partnering with the Community Foundation of Greater
Flint to create a fund that will address long-term developmental,
education, nutrition and health needs of the children affected by
the Flint Water Crisis."
Beyonce is one of many celebrities offering aid to those affected
by the water crisis - Madonna, Pearl Jam, and The Game have donated
money, and Cher, Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Mark Wahlberg, and Eminem are
among those who have donated bottles of water.
Beyonce surprised fans by releasing new single Formation ahead of
her appearance at the Super Bowl half-time show on Sunday
(07Feb16), and after her performance, she announced dates for her
2016 world tour.
