Beyonce and Jay-Z under fire for Cuba visit

Beyonce and Jay-Z have come under fire for taking a wedding anniversary trip to Cuba amid allegations of human rights abuses in the communist country.

The hip-hop supercouple celebrated five years as husband and wife with a visit to the capital city of Havana, where they dined with their mothers, greeted fans, checked out the sights and even stopped by El Gato Tuerto, a famous nightclub.

However, lobbyists fighting for democracy in Cuba have branded the pair "insensitive" for choosing the Caribbean nation for a celebration, despite decades of reported human rights violations.

Mauricio Claver-Carone, a director for The US-Cuba Democracy PAC, tells TMZ.com, "There are women getting beaten on a daily basis, women who are being jailed for no reason... people are fighting for their freedom. It's extremely insensitive."

U.S. citizens like Beyonce and Jay-Z are technically prohibited from flying to Cuba for tourism, and must obtain special travel licenses from the government.

A source tells Reuters the pair was invited by officials for Cuba's tourism ministry.
