Beyonce and Jay Z cleared over controversial Cuba trip

Beyonce and Jay Z have been cleared of accusations they violated sanctions with their controversial visit to Cuba.

The superstar couple headed to Havana in April, 2013 for what appeared to be a special break to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, and the trip sparked outrage as the government bans citizens from travelling to Cuba for tourism purposes.

The stars later claimed they had been given a special travel permit to visit Cuba for academic and cultural purposes, and now an official investigation has ruled the couple did have the correct documentation.

The U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Inspector General has issued a nine-page report which concludes, "Based on our review of available documentation and applicable regulations and guidance, we found no indication that U.S. sanctions were violated."

A number of politicians called for a probe into the stars' trip to Cuba, and Jay Z hit back by addressing the controversy in a song titled Open Letter.
